There have been no gaming events here since my birthday, other than one afternoon of Pandemic Legacy. My other gaming has consisted mostly of my friend's Tuesday night girls' group and weekend days at Mark's. My friend Luke held a game of Warrior Knights one weekend. Each player has four heroes (those horse-and-riders on the map above) who recruit armies and try to take over cities in medieval times. Players can build "faith" to influence events that happen throughout the game or political power, to control votes and new rules. In the meantime we are supposed to be running around attacking each other, but since we were new to the game we hid in our own cities uselessly. I would definitely play this again. Devon and I have got some gaming in, when I haven't been too tired. We have taken a liking to the little card game, Coloretto Amazonas. It's a very simple little game, where you are trying to collect sets of animals, but you can give them away to your opponent too. Duplicates force you to throw cards out. Devon and I really like the whole "Here, have a gift...", "Gee, thanks..." aspect and ham it up. Of course, Devon has been dragged into feeding my Takenoko addiction. I plan to teach this to Katie soon, also. This photo here illustrates why I love the house we live in! Sun, space and greenery! Splendor has been a popular game at Mark's place recently. I've had my eye on it for a couple of years, but never bought it because reviews have said it's quite dry. Now I've had the chance to play it, I do really like it. It's fun to build up your own personal stacks of cards and jewels. More October gaming moments: I've made no new purchases this month due to having other expenses, plus there's nothing I'm desperate to get right now. Games I Played in October Coloretto Amazonas* (x4)
Jungle Speed (x3) Splendor* (x3) Bohnanza (x2) Codenames (x2) Pandemic Legacy: Season 1 (x2) At the Gates of Loyang Battlestar Galactica Before I Kill You, Mister Spy...* Settlers of Catan Citadels Galaxy Trucker Java* Lords of Waterdeep Love Letter The Manhattan Project* Puerto Rico Seasons Star Trek: Catan Takenoko Warrior Knights* *New to me Played Online: Takenoko (x8), Tobago, Seasons, Love Letter, Elfenland Most Enjoyed: Splendor Why? Every time I play I feel like I learn something, and I'm keen to try again with a different approach. Least Enjoyed: It's a hard pick this month, as I didn't like Citadels, Star Trek: Catan or Before I Kill You, Mister Spy... If I'm forced to pick, it would be Star Trek: Catan. Why? I think my biggest problem is the graphic design makes it really hard to see what's going on. It's dark and busy. It unnecessarily complicates an average game (Settlers of Catan), with new names for everything. All of this interrupts my thought process and I feel like I don't know what I'm doing, despite it being 95% the same as regular Catan. It also doesn't help that I'm not a fan of Star Trek.
